With summer weather nipping at our heels it is hard to ignore the warm weather and clear blue skies. The downfall of beautiful summer weather is not being able to enjoy it. When you work behind a computer 5 days a week you can’t help but feel like you are being held captive from the sun. However, it is always important to look at the positive side of every situation!
For most designers who work in marketing and advertising we find ourselves working on many campaigns and projects that are based around a specific time of the year or season. What better way to design for a season than to draw inspiration from the season itself! Instead of feeling bitter towards the woman passing you on the footpath with a singlet tan line look for opportunity to draw inspiration from the silly season. Let colours, summer fashion trends and the warm weather that surrounds you become tools of encouragement to aid your design.
Looking for inspiration beyond your keyboard is something that becomes more useful with time. I find showcase websites and inspirational design roundups helpful, but can sometimes become stale. Knowing that the inspiration for your next great design may be lurking outside your door is a great way to keep you from feeling discouraged about all work and little play during those perfect summer days. It only takes a second to become inspired, so even if you only have time for a 5 minute walk around the block it is well worth taking!
